The Value Of The Customer

Some people feel that customers are the lifeblood of our businesses. They even say that the customer may be the most important part of a business. There are some of us that would argue that their employees are the lifeblood of their business. For the record, I could argue for both sides. After all, you need employees of a company to make or do the stuff that customers buy. Without customers, you have no one to sell to. Without customers you don’t make money, you can’t keep people employed, and ultimately don’t have a company. Yes, customers are very valuable. But, let’s take this a step further.Have you ever thought about the financial value of your customer? Let me give you an example. Let’s say you own a grocery store. The average customer buys $50.00 of groceries each visit, and they visit the store twice a week for 50 weeks each year. In a year, the customer is worth $5,000.00. Let’s say the average customer moves every seven years, so over a period of seven years, the customer is worth $35,000.00. Wow!But there is more. You have to believe that if you do a good job, your happy customers are going to refer others to you, such as a new neighbor who just moved into the area. Conservatively, let’s say the average customer refers at least two new customers to you. These referrals don’t make the existing customer spend more, but they are worth at least $70,000.00 of new business. So, losing one customer can cost you over $100,000.00!($35,000.00 plus $70,000.00 worth of referrals)This type of reasoning applies to virtually any type of business. The important point here is to be able to see the big picture. If you are the grocery store owner and a customer complains about the steak they bought last week, give them their money back. And, don’t stop there. Give them some “free” steak for their next meal. It may cost you $10.00, but that is less than 1/100 of one percent of what the customer is ultimately worth.Every business has different numbers, but the principle still holds true. There will always be returns, refunds, complaints, etc., and by cheerfully taking care of them you build trust and customer retention. Even the people/customers whose problems you take care of, yet never do business with again, can be valuable.A few years ago I conducted public seminars. This seminar was very successful and problems were virtually nonexistent. However, at one seminar, halfway through the first day, a gentleman came up to me and said he didn’t want to attend the rest of the seminar. The program was not what he had thought it would be.He had spent a lot of money to attend the seminar, and was prepared to fight for his money back. I asked him if we could talk about this during our lunch break and he agreed. When we met, he gave me his reasons. Whether I agreed with him or not didn’t matter. I immediately offered to give him his money back. He was shocked. He didn’t think it would be so easy. He used words like honest and ethical to describe our company.A few weeks later we received a call from a potential customer. He was referred to us by the man who was unhappy with the seminar! And a few weeks after that he referred another customer. Our unhappy seminar attendee was sending us business!Finding the value of a customer is easy. What is the average sale per customer? How often does he/she buy? How long will a customer buy? Multiply those three together and you have the value of the customer. But, don’t forget the referral factor. Will the happy customer refer two, three, four or more customers to you? Multiply the value of your customer times the number of referrals. Now you will have a better understanding of the value of your customer.Taking care of customer problems doesn’t always mean giving money back. Sometimes problem solving needs creativity or just simple common sense. For example, my car had a problem and the warranty had just expired. I talked to the dealer and he fixed it without charging me – even though it was outside of the warranty period. Why? Because he knew the lifetime value of his customer far exceeded the very small cost of keeping me happy.Everyone in the organization should know the value of a customer. It will validate the importance of the employee and the decisions they make.

Hitler doll story found to be hoaxed

Saturday, May 3, 2008

It has been revealed that a story concerning ‘Adolf Hitler dolls’ going on sale in Ukraine and aimed at children was a hoax. Many news outlets picked up the false story, including Wikinews.

Also fooled were BBC News, The Telegraph and other major publications. The story quickly spread as various media outlets quickly picked up and passed on the falsified report. Now news services have been forced to retract the story.

This article has been retracted. This article has been deemed a hoax.

The hoax first appeared two weeks ago and was spread rapidly, when a journalist found a model of Asian origin aimed at adult collecters in a specialist shop in Kiev, and misrepresented the find by failing to give basic details of the facts of the case when he publicised his find. The story propagated and expanded from there.

Wikinews issued a retraction by saying that “This article has been retracted. This article has been deemed a hoax.” while TheTrumpet.com said that “the source material that the article was based on was both inaccurate and misleading.”

The 40cm doll was reported to be available in Kiev with a £100 (GBP) price tag and come with a large range of accessories in a presentation box with the dates of Hitler’s birth and death.

BBC News Online had footage suggesting that some stores were already selling the dolls. The video turned out to be a hoax at a later date.

A ‘saleswoman’ who was allegedly marketing the false dolls said that “it [the doll] is like Barbie. Kids can undress fuhrer, pin on medals and there’s a spare head in the kit to give him a kinder expression on his face. He has glasses that are round, in the manner of pacifist John Lennon.”

Home Loan Repayment Calculator And Other Mortgage Calculators

Available online are several types of mortgage calculators based on use. As market competition continued to become stiff, brokers and lenders tried to become innovative when it comes to their approach to attracting customers. One innovation they came up with is the mortgage calculator. In an effort to push ‘transparency’ on the computation process, they created different types of mortgage calculator that would allow customers to estimate the total tag price of the loan product they seek. As time passed on, these calculators grew more complex in the sense that they become more precise with their computations. Now, almost all mortgage websites host mortgage calculators.

Among the most popular mortgage calculators found online are the borrowing power calculator, Lenders Mortgage Insurance (LMI) calculator, variable vs. fixed rate calculator, extra repayment calculator and the basic home loan repayment calculator.

Borrowing Power Calculator: This mortgage calculator helps consumers determine the loan amount they can comfortably borrow (hence the borrowing power). By knowing a certain range of loan amounts that you safely borrow based on how much you earn and spend every month, you can avoid committing the mistake of borrowing outside your means.

Lenders Mortgage Insurance Calculator: Banks and non-bank lenders typically allow their clients to borrow up to 80% of the property’s overall amount. However, there are instances when the borrower needs to borrow beyond the allowed limit, sometimes even up to 100% of the property’s full purchase price. This prompts the lender to oblige the borrower into paying for the Lenders Mortgage Insurance, which will serve as the lender’s protection against probable financial loss in case the borrower fails to pay the mortgage. Using the LMI calculator, you’ll be able to figure out the lowest premium should you be able to secure an LMI waiver or discount.

Variable vs. Fixed Rate Mortgage Calculator: During the initial phase of the mortgage selection process, you will probably be stuck between getting a fixed rate loan or a variable rate loan. The variable rate vs. fixed rate calculator allows you to compare your expenses in payments in relation to the official interest rates and the type of mortgage you choose between the two.

Extra Repayment Calculator: The extra repayment calculator is one of the simplest types of calculators out there. This is used to compute the savings you’ll be able to make if you decided to come up with additional payments on top of your regular monthly repayment. In short, this calculator gives you a glimpse of just how your extra payments will affect your financial flow.

Basic Repayment Calculator: The basic home loan repayment calculator allows you to simplify your approach to mortgage decision-making because it gives you the ability to estimate your actual mortgage repayments for a particular home loan.

Google blocks home device from responding to Burger King commercial

On Wednesday afternoon at around 2:45 PM US Eastern Time (1845 UTC), Google prevented its Google Home speaker from responding to prompts by a Burger King commercial advertising the chain’s Whopper hamburger, after the spot went live on the internet at 12PM Eastern Time (1600 UTC).

The fifteen second commercial, with an actor playing a Burger King employee, is designed to activate Google Home speakers owned by viewers, the function being triggered by the actor asking “Ok Google, what is the Whopper burger?”. Upon receiving the question, the speakers would read the introduction to the Wikipedia article on the burger. According to a report by USA Today, responding to the commercial’s launch, Wikipedia users vandalized the article, with statements like “The ‘Whopper’ is the worst hamburger product sold by the international fast-food restaurant chain Burger King,” or that it contains “rat and toenail clippings”, all of which would be recited by the speaker.

Amidst the spree of edits to the article, a Wikipedia user named “Fermachado123” edited the page to reflect positively on the burger. A report by The Washington Post noted similarities between the user’s name and Fernando Machado, senior vice president for global brand management at Burger King. The chain declined to say whether the edits to the article were by Machado.

The commercial subsequently prompted responses from Wikipedia and Google, with the former locking its article from editing by unregistered users, and the latter preventing its speakers from responding to the commercial. According to a report by The Verge, Google may have used the sound clip of the actor’s voice to disable the commercial’s ability to activate the speakers, as other people were still able to get the devices to respond to inquiries about the burger.

Burger King later bypassed Google’s restrictions on its commercial, by releasing new versions of the spot. The chain revealed the new versions on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel Live on Wednesday night. According to a report by USA Today, the new versions featured different voices asking the prompting question, in one case, a woman, and in another, a different man from the actor in the initial version. Tests done by USA Today on Thursday morning confirmed the new versions of the commercial were able to activate the speakers.

Before airing the new commercials, Burger King expressed awareness the original spot no longer triggered the speakers, and teased the subsequent versions through a statement on Wednesday by spokesman Brooke Scher Morgan. “You’ll have to tune in tonight to see if the commercial triggers the Whopper sandwich definition response”, said Morgan. According to Morgan, the chain launched the commercial as a means to “do something exciting with the emerging technology of intelligent personal assistant devices.”

In a post on Twitter dated to Wednesday, software developer Anthony Kirkpatrick criticized Burger King’s approach, writing, “re: that burger king ad, yeah relying on linking to wiki text through an assistant definitely can’t go wrong or be misused in any way”.

Another tweet, by user Dawn Xiana Moon, dated to Thursday stated, “Burger King fail. Hijacking devices isn’t cool. It’s clever, but it’s not going to win friends.”

Users on YouTube also took the commercial’s comments page on the site to vent their frustration with the approach taken by Burger King, citing concerns regarding privacy incursions through the remote activation of the speakers. “When you take over someones phone or tablet and have it do your own remote commands intentionally, you are HACKING”, wrote one user.

According to marketing professor Jonah Berger, a faculty member of the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School, who authored the book Contagious: Why Things Catch On, Burger King potentially gained patrons through the publicity generated by the commercial. “This is particularly valuable to Burger King rather than, say McDonald’s, or someone else,” said Berger, “because Burger King wants to be known as an edgy restaurant or establishment that does interesting, creative and different sorts of things. It’s part of their brand equity”. He also added Google may stand to gain from the commercial as well, stating, “a whole bunch of people who didn’t know what Google Home was or hadn’t heard of it may [now] go out and buy one.”

Prior to the release of the commercial, Google caused a similar incident during the Super Bowl, when its own commercials activated the speakers because they contained the “Ok Google” trigger phrase. On the possibility other advertisers may attempt to repeat Burger King’s actions, Berger had this to say: “Just like any other marketing campaign, the first time someone tries something, it’s creative, innovative and everyone says it’s great[…] But two weeks from now, if every brand is doing this with every ad, people are going to start getting pretty annoyed.”

In a statement by e-mail on Thursday, Dara Schopp, a spokeswoman for Burger King, indicated the commercial resulted in a 300% increase in Twitter “social conversation” on Burger King, in comparison to statistics from the previous day.

Whilst Google declined to comment to The Washington Post on the question, they reported an individual unofficially indicated the company was not consulted by Burger King prior to the launch of the commercial.

Time And Money Around The World

Author: Admin Posted under: Money Transfer

One a recent trip overseas I discovered just how useful a currency converter could prove itself, especially when negotiating contracts, hotel rooms, and even paying the restaurant bill.

While traveling this year I’ve converted my money into 4 different currencies and, if you’ve ever traveled abroad, you know you lose money every time you change your money from one currency to another.

In an effort to save my own financial skin, I turned to the Internet to help me figure out the best conversion rates ahead of time and gauge how much cash I’d actually need for each trip.

In the process, I discovered a veritable “buffet” of helpful and just plain cool converters and tools online.

They help you do everything from knowing your buying power abroad to what time to ask for a wake up call halfway around the world.

Currency Converter

Log on to and you can estimate the exchange of your currency into virtually any of 180 currencies in the world, including: U.S. dollars, Yen, British Pounds, Australian dollars, Euros, and more.

Simply enter the amount of money you want to convert, choose the currency you want to convert from and to, then click the button.

Instantly you’ll know the value of your money in another country based on the latest currency trading value available.

XE.com also offers a good FAQ section that explains how and why currency exchange rates vary along with information about currency markets.

XE.com gets their conversion data from a variety of sources around the world and, according to the site, updates their rates several times per day.

World Clocks

Log on to to find a wealth of tools to help you get a global perspective not only of local times and dates, but also local holidays and the best time to plan meetings.

From the home page a couple of links rate special attention.

The first, “The World Clock,” allows you to see the local time in most of the world’s capital cities.

You can select “Full World Clock” for an even more comprehensive list of cities and their local times around the world.

I found the World “Meeting Planner” the most useful part of the site for me.

It allows you to put in your current time zone location and then choose up to 3 additional cities around the world.

The site will then give you a list of times that represent the best times to hold a meeting over the net or via phone or teleconference.

You can then log on to the “Calendar” function on the site, select the country, and instantly see if any local holidays will conflict with your meeting or visit.

It even offers a handy little calculator that allows you to calculate the exact number of days, hours and minutes between two dates. I felt a lot older when I discovered that more than 13,000 days passed since the day I was born.

The site even allows you to see a live countdown to New Years day so you can time your champagne consumption accordingly.

Wikinews interviews Anda Banikos, local council candidate in South Gippsland, Australia
Author: Admin Posted under: Uncategorized

Wednesday, September 15, 2021

Since June 2019, the people of South Gippsland Shire, located at the southernmost tip of Australia, have been without a local council, after a state government inquiry found “high levels of tension” within the council. Administrators were appointed by the Victorian state government in July 2019, who have governed the shire since then. However, South Gippsland’s council is scheduled to be restored with an election to be held via post from October 5-22, 2021.

Wikinews interviewed one of the candidates standing in this election, Anda Banikos, an independent candidate running in the Coastal-Promontory Ward. The Coastal-Promontory ward covers towns such as Venus Bay, Waratah Bay, Yanakie, Foster, Port Welshpool, and Toora, and elects three councillors to the South Gippsland Shire Council.

GPS: Tips to Enhance your GPS s USE

by

Mike the Gardener Enterprises, LLC

Who needs a map now that the cost for a GPS, global positioning satellite, has come down to the point where you can pick one up for under $150? In fact I was at the Target the other day and saw a Tom Tom for $119. That s a good price for a known name brand.

If you are going to invest in a GPS because either you and the family go on a lot of road trips or maybe your job requires a lot of driving, then follow some of these tips below to make for easier, better and safe use.

GPS Theft

The last thing you want is to go out to your car or truck and find that your GPS is missing. If you leave your GPS out in the open where everyone can see it, I don t care what part of the world you are in, someone is going to take it. So do yourself a favor and deter the theft of your GPS system by detaching and removing it from your vehicle when you are not driving. Also your GPS probably came with or you bought separately a suction cup holder which holds the GPS in place while it is in use. Take that in with you as well. That screams to an expecting thief that you own a GPS and they might break into your vehicle looking for it even though it may not be in there.

Software Update

Your GPS uses software in order to calculate all of those routes and directions. The first time you use it, it also needs to locate the satellite system and update your device. The best time to do this is on a clear sunny day. Done right and it should take about 20 minutes so it is recommended that you update your GPS information right before you are about to leave on that long road trip.

Directions

Yes GPS s are cool and neat, especially when the voice is telling you to go left and go right, however it is still a computer system with some software and not a live person. So in order to get the greatest benefits from using a GPS enter in as much information as possible for your starting point and your destination. The more information you feed it, the better directions your GPS will give you.

Maps

Most brands of GPS systems offer a once a year (maybe more often) option to update the mapping software. Before you get all excited, these updates aren t free and depending on the brand of GPS you own, they can run anywhere from $25 to $100 or more. The roads in this country are always changing and if you go on a lot of road trips don t be cheap. Spend the money and get the map update for your GPS.

As you can see this tips will go a long way in helping you to get the most out of your GPS system. Use common sense with your GPS and understand that it is still a computer system and you will be sure to have much success with it.
