Time And Money Around The World

One a recent trip overseas I discovered just how useful a currency converter could prove itself, especially when negotiating contracts, hotel rooms, and even paying the restaurant bill.

While traveling this year I’ve converted my money into 4 different currencies and, if you’ve ever traveled abroad, you know you lose money every time you change your money from one currency to another.

In an effort to save my own financial skin, I turned to the Internet to help me figure out the best conversion rates ahead of time and gauge how much cash I’d actually need for each trip.

In the process, I discovered a veritable “buffet” of helpful and just plain cool converters and tools online.

They help you do everything from knowing your buying power abroad to what time to ask for a wake up call halfway around the world.

Currency Converter

Log on to and you can estimate the exchange of your currency into virtually any of 180 currencies in the world, including: U.S. dollars, Yen, British Pounds, Australian dollars, Euros, and more.

Simply enter the amount of money you want to convert, choose the currency you want to convert from and to, then click the button.

Instantly you’ll know the value of your money in another country based on the latest currency trading value available.

XE.com also offers a good FAQ section that explains how and why currency exchange rates vary along with information about currency markets.

XE.com gets their conversion data from a variety of sources around the world and, according to the site, updates their rates several times per day.

World Clocks

Log on to to find a wealth of tools to help you get a global perspective not only of local times and dates, but also local holidays and the best time to plan meetings.

From the home page a couple of links rate special attention.

The first, “The World Clock,” allows you to see the local time in most of the world’s capital cities.

You can select “Full World Clock” for an even more comprehensive list of cities and their local times around the world.

I found the World “Meeting Planner” the most useful part of the site for me.

It allows you to put in your current time zone location and then choose up to 3 additional cities around the world.

The site will then give you a list of times that represent the best times to hold a meeting over the net or via phone or teleconference.

You can then log on to the “Calendar” function on the site, select the country, and instantly see if any local holidays will conflict with your meeting or visit.

It even offers a handy little calculator that allows you to calculate the exact number of days, hours and minutes between two dates. I felt a lot older when I discovered that more than 13,000 days passed since the day I was born.

The site even allows you to see a live countdown to New Years day so you can time your champagne consumption accordingly.

Wikinews interviews Anda Banikos, local council candidate in South Gippsland, Australia

Wednesday, September 15, 2021

Since June 2019, the people of South Gippsland Shire, located at the southernmost tip of Australia, have been without a local council, after a state government inquiry found “high levels of tension” within the council. Administrators were appointed by the Victorian state government in July 2019, who have governed the shire since then. However, South Gippsland’s council is scheduled to be restored with an election to be held via post from October 5-22, 2021.

Wikinews interviewed one of the candidates standing in this election, Anda Banikos, an independent candidate running in the Coastal-Promontory Ward. The Coastal-Promontory ward covers towns such as Venus Bay, Waratah Bay, Yanakie, Foster, Port Welshpool, and Toora, and elects three councillors to the South Gippsland Shire Council.

Gps: Tips To Enhance Your Gps S Use

GPS: Tips to Enhance your GPS s USE

by

Mike the Gardener Enterprises, LLC

Who needs a map now that the cost for a GPS, global positioning satellite, has come down to the point where you can pick one up for under $150? In fact I was at the Target the other day and saw a Tom Tom for $119. That s a good price for a known name brand.

If you are going to invest in a GPS because either you and the family go on a lot of road trips or maybe your job requires a lot of driving, then follow some of these tips below to make for easier, better and safe use.

GPS Theft

The last thing you want is to go out to your car or truck and find that your GPS is missing. If you leave your GPS out in the open where everyone can see it, I don t care what part of the world you are in, someone is going to take it. So do yourself a favor and deter the theft of your GPS system by detaching and removing it from your vehicle when you are not driving. Also your GPS probably came with or you bought separately a suction cup holder which holds the GPS in place while it is in use. Take that in with you as well. That screams to an expecting thief that you own a GPS and they might break into your vehicle looking for it even though it may not be in there.

Software Update

Your GPS uses software in order to calculate all of those routes and directions. The first time you use it, it also needs to locate the satellite system and update your device. The best time to do this is on a clear sunny day. Done right and it should take about 20 minutes so it is recommended that you update your GPS information right before you are about to leave on that long road trip.

Directions

Yes GPS s are cool and neat, especially when the voice is telling you to go left and go right, however it is still a computer system with some software and not a live person. So in order to get the greatest benefits from using a GPS enter in as much information as possible for your starting point and your destination. The more information you feed it, the better directions your GPS will give you.

Maps

Most brands of GPS systems offer a once a year (maybe more often) option to update the mapping software. Before you get all excited, these updates aren t free and depending on the brand of GPS you own, they can run anywhere from $25 to $100 or more. The roads in this country are always changing and if you go on a lot of road trips don t be cheap. Spend the money and get the map update for your GPS.

As you can see this tips will go a long way in helping you to get the most out of your GPS system. Use common sense with your GPS and understand that it is still a computer system and you will be sure to have much success with it.

Five injured as Adam Air 737 overruns Batam island runway

Tuesday, March 11, 2008

On Monday, five people were injured after a Boeing 737-400, operated by Adam Air, overshot the runway today while landing at Hang Nadim Airport on the island of Batam in Indonesia.

The aircraft skidded 75 metres (245 feet) into a grassy field after touching down in rainy conditions. Damage was done to the right wing, hydraulics and main landing gear. The plane came to rest with the nose in the air and leaning towards the right.

Of the 176 passengers (one source says 174) and crew on board, five passengers required treatment for neck and head injuries.

Adam Suherman, president of the airline, said the plane had skidded 10 metres beyond the extreme end of the runway. He also gave the time of the crash as 10:40 and noted that the plane was currently resting on soft ground.

Suherman gave the registration of the aircraft as PK-KKT. This would make the aircraft the one Boeing gave the serial number 24353 and owned by CIT Group Incorporated.

Adam Air spokesman Danke Drajat described the plane as having been in “good condition” at its last major inspection in December. He suggested the weather condition may be to blame for the crash, the third to strike the budjet carrier in just over a year. On New Year’s Day in 2007 Flight 574 crashed into the sea, leaving 102 missing, presumed dead. The following month the fuselage of Flight 172 cracked in half during a hard landing. Both involved Boeing 737 aircraft.

Pantun Banjarnahor, Hang Nadim Airport’s chief of operations, said that visibility was adequate for a safe landing. The airport was closed for over two hours. It is unclear how many flights were affected.

The National Transportation Safety Committee is investigating.

The school was sent into a “lockdown” and students were ushered into the gym, cafeteria and various classrooms. Alenson was rushed to Emerson Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 8:15 am EST. Odgren admitted to the stabbing and was in the principal’s office saying “I did it, I did it,” to police. However, Odgren also reportedly said “Is he OK? I don’t want him to die,” according to a police report. All students were released at 10:20 am EST.

Car Insurance What Is Zero Depreciation?

Car Insurance- What is zero depreciation?

by

Addy Brown

Auto industry is flooded with options and every brand is launching new models in order to lure the customers. People face confusion as on when they plan to buy a new car due to various choices available to them within a particular segment. The trends in the auto industry keep on changing and most importantly helping auto industry to shine. If the customer faces dilemma while buying a new car, same can be said when customer needs to buy car insurance. Further, an individual can get their auto insurance quotes online as well through insurance aggregators and preferred provider website.

Car insurance premium is not independent as there are lots of factors impacting it. There are several types of policies that can be bought by an individual in order to fulfill the obligation. Comprehensive insurance policy is the type of shield which provides complete protection to the insured. It provides protection in case of damage to own vehicle, third party vehicle damage and third party property damages. This form of protection is the most expensive and extensive form of auto insurance.

If someone cannot afford this particular type of insurance and is looking for cheap auto insurance, then the option available to them is third party liability cover. This form of insurance is a narrower as car insurance premium is lower and it covers for damages to the third party vehicle only. Generally, every company provides auto insurance quote for both kinds of policies i.e. comprehensive policy as well as third party liability policy.

There are several add-on that can be bought along with primary policy namely personal accident cover, medical and health cover etc. Personal accident cover provides protection to individual in case of any accident. We can keep our

car insurance premium

in check by avoiding these coverage s if we already have separate policy for these covers. A person looking for cheap auto insurance must do proper research and evaluation by comparison of various policies.

Zero depreciation cover is also an add-on cover which can be bought along with the primary auto insurance policy. Typically, at the time of providing claims to the insured, insurance company reimburses the amount of the repairs and damages of the parts after considering them after depreciation. This automatically increases the payout of the deductibles which are chosen by the insured.

Zero depreciation policy is a feature and a cover if opted can save insured from this mental headache. It does not consider depreciation while giving out claims as they are calculated on the parts with no depreciation. The zero depreciation policy rewards the claim fully for a premium sum which is around 20 percent greater than the standard cover. Further, all fiber, plastic, rubber and metal parts are covered without applying depreciation while calculating the cover. This add-on actually increases auto insurance quote for an individual.

IEEE approves 802.11n standard after six years

IEEE approves 802.11n standard after six years
Author: Admin Posted under: Uncategorized

Saturday, September 12, 2009

On Friday, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) ratified the next generation of Wi-Fi Alliance certification known as 802.11n. The path to ratification began on September 11, 2003 with 11 major drafts of the specification over the course of six years. Even though just approved, wireless devices have been available on the the market for over two years, running on what is known as “draft n” or “pre-N”.

The 802.11n standard operates on both the 2.4Ghz and 5.0Ghz frequencies. This will allow it to be backwards compatible with 802.11a, 802.11b and 802.11g, provided that the base station has dual radios. The speeds of 802.11n are substantially faster than that of its predecessors with a maximum theoretical throughput of 600Mbit/s.

Very few additions were made to the 802.11n draft standard over the last two years, so most if not all “draft n” hardware available on the market today is expected to be compatible with n-standard devices available in the future. In a similar process of the upgrade from “pre-G” to 802.11g, it is expected that most manufacturers of wireless hardware will release new firmware to bring all draft devices up to full standard compliance.

Andrew Marr angers bloggers, describing them as ‘inadequate, pimpled and single’

Andrew Marr angers bloggers, describing them as ‘inadequate, pimpled and single’
Author: Admin Posted under: Uncategorized

Monday, October 11, 2010

British journalist Andrew Marr has angered bloggers by suggesting they are “inadequate, pimpled and single.” Marr, who was formerly the BBC’s political editor, also said that citizen journalism is “spewings and rantings of very drunk people late at night”. He made the comments at the Cheltenham Literary Festival, saying: “A lot of bloggers seem to be socially inadequate, pimpled, single, slightly seedy, bald, cauliflower-nosed young men sitting in their mother’s basements and ranting. They are very angry people.”

Marr, who now hosts a flagship Sunday morning show, The Andrew Marr Show, on which he has recently interviewed British Prime Minister David Cameron and ousted BP executive Tony Hayward, added: “OK – the country is full of very angry people. Many of us are angry people at times. Some of us are angry and drunk”. His comments sparked outrage from bloggers, one of whom dismissed them as “stupid generalisations.” Another said that they were “sure that Andrew Marr did not mean all bloggers, but it is unfortunate that he did not seem to make much of a distinction in his statement.” Another blogger, writing on Twitter, said they supported Marr’s arguments. “Just read Andrew Marr’s comments on blogging,” they said. “I blog and I agree with most of what he says. I don’t read blogs for news, doubt I ever will.”

Aside from the paradox of him indulging in a rant to complain about other ranters, it is the one-sidedness of his argument that is so striking

Other journalists also criticised the comments. Krishnan Guru-Murthy, a newscaster for Channel 4 News, said that it is “true that flicking through the comment section of some political blogs can easily make you think the blogosphere is populated by obnoxious trolls. But there are plenty of thoughtful, insightful people writing online too: you just need to find them. They might not be household names, or worthy of a slot on Radio 4, but to dismiss them out of hand seems wrong. As for bloggers being ‘inadequate, pimpled and single,’ that’s no way to talk about Jon Snow. He isn’t single.”

“We know our viewers want commentary and analysis alongside their news and our blogs help us give more of that,” Murthy said. “Obviously we can’t give opinion in the way bloggers who aren’t also public service broadcasters can, but we enjoy reading other people’s opinions and the best blogs are much more than rants, often breaking stories, too. And anyway, I like reading the occasional rant. But as a blogger if you offer up something to the wider world you should expect people to say what they think of it.”

Roy Greenslade, a professor of journalism at City University London, and former editor of the Daily Mirror, said: “Aside from the paradox of him indulging in a rant to complain about other ranters, it is the one-sidedness of his argument that is so striking. None of us who write blogs are unaware of vituperative contributions from people who like to remain anonymous … It’s the price we [bloggers] pay –a small price, in my view– for a communications system that allows for public participation.” Greenslade added that he thought Marr “seems to be damning the whole blogosphere when, as we all know, there are thousand upon thousand of bloggers who are making valuable public interest contributions on the net day by day, even hour by hour. Marr, to use an archaic but apposite idiom, simply can’t see the wood for the trees.”
